Hoard of horaries 1 by Deb There is an amazing hoard of unexplored horaries from the archives of William Lilly available on this link: https://www.skyscript.co.uk/lilly_207.html Be sure to check the links around the flipbook - pdfs of transcriptions will be added as they become available, and there is also a link to the collection of 600 horary judgements by Lilly's contemporary, Jeffery Neve. 4 by Deb I received a kind email from Luis Ribeiro last night, concerned that the manuscript attributed to Lilly was the same manuscript as that which has proven authorship by his contemporary, Geffrey Le Neve. Initially, this possibility had been considered and rejected, because as links on the Skyscript site show, these are definitely two separate manuscripts, with different handwriting and clear differences in how certain details are expressed. But looking through the charts last night I did notice, from the details within the chart imagery, that the charts were drawn by the same hand. So it is possible, that even if it is not the same charts, they are originating from the same astrologer. Until such time that this can be fully resolved, I have slightly edited the page on Skyscript, to lessen the emphasis on Lilly. I will also add a comment today to say that the authorship is in dispute and is currently being investigated. The link on Skyscript has also been changed to the following, to keep a more neutral URL: https://www.skyscript.co.uk/207_horaries.html (The previously published link will still work but as a forwarder to this new page). In any event, this is a wonderful document that is extremely important and valuable in its own right, whoever authored it. Naturally, I am very keen to ensure that the attribution details are as correct as they can be, and that if there is doubt about that, the doubt is part of the record too. It’s early days on this exciting find, so I will keep you updated as facts come to light. Quote Tue Oct 04, 2022 12:01 pm
6 by Deb After various discussions, the information on the page has been corrected to clarify that these charts belong to the contemporary astrologer Jeffery Neve - not Lilly, although the Bodleian Library had them catalogued under his name. Since the original link had Lilly's name in the URL, which is now known to be misleading, I have moved to a new page and created a forwarder so that anyone following the old link will land in the right place. The page is now at: https://www.skyscript.co.uk/neve_horaries.html There is some very brief info on Neve with a link to his entry in the Dictionary of National Biography - looking forward to adding more news on the development of the research being undertaken by the Astra Project in due course.
