Problems with journey/flight/9th-house elections 1 by Dima Gur Hi everyone, I'm having problems getting consistent results with my journey/flights/9th-house elections. Usually I elect for the time a flight is scheduled (plane's takeoff, by comparing different flight times), but I remember reading in some older source that we should aim to elect for the time a person leaves the house (first step towards the journey, sort of). Maybe I should use the time a person step out of his house. As I usually judge the nature of the journey itself (the flight) from the condition of the 9th and its ruler, this may be another thorn which is in the root of the issue. Here I should mention that both Kim Farnell in her Little Book of Electional Astrology and William Ramsey in his Astrology Restored allude to such an approach. Regardless, my results have been inconsistent. Flights which looked sub-par ended up being comfy and pleasurable, and also the reverse has happened. Vivian Robson in his Electional book advices to use the 10th house as the house of the journey itself, but I haven't yet switched to such an approach. Maybe will try to experiment with it or judge past elections according to this metric. In case you wonder, Robson additionally gives the 1st as the house of the starting place, the 7th as the house of the destination and the 4th as the house of the return (return journey probably). Also, maybe I should just be more realistic with my elections, as the statistical chance of a flight turning sour isn't very high. This may mean that I'd need to have a really dreadful 9th and 9th ruler to judge it as a "disaster flight", so to speak. What do you think? Insights would be welcomed. https://www.gurastro.com Quote Thu Aug 10, 2023 9:28 pm
2 by Deb Hi Dima I nodded my head at your final paragraph - if you start off with a fear, there will be a thousand ways in which you can project that fear into the symbolism of a chart. But with electional astrology, the most important principle is to make the election radical by considering how the theme of the moment relates to your own horoscope. So to make this easy and practical, simply avoid flights at the time that you have horrible transits - then you will have already taken the most important electional astrology step towards improving your flight experience. I wouldn't waste a lot more time and energy into going beyond that, because for this situation you have no reason to assume that your flight won't be successful in taking you to where you need to go. 3 by Ouranos But with electional astrology, the most important principle is to make the election radical by considering how the theme of the moment relates to your own horoscope. Good point Deb! Another principle is Moon last and next aspect. In Uranian astrology, it says that travelling is Mercury+ Saturn (Leaving, saying goodbye). Now, you can combine this pair with any other points in your chart and the formula would be ME+SA- other point. You can then check the transits in your chart (hard aspects) to get a 'feel' of what your trip will look like. And you focus on where the point falls or the 'other point' involved with Mercury/Saturn. Here is my list (incomplete) taken from the Rulebook of planetary pictures and you can add your own understanding or keywords. Me+Sa-AS = To travel Me+Sa-MC = Fond of travel Me+Sa-Su = Not staying long in one place Me+Sa-Mo = En route, travel companion Me+Sa-Ma = A trip that has to be made (emergency, last minute) Me+Sa-Ju = Vacation trip Me+Sa-Ne = Spiritual or retreat trip, homesick. Me+Sa-Ur = Sudden departure Me+Sa-NN = Travelling companion Me+Sa-Cu = Family trip, honeymoon Me+Sa-Ha = Journey into the past, enemities Me+Sa-Ze = To be summoned to travel by authorities, pensioned. Me+Sa-Vu = Far and long distance travel. Me+Sa-Po = Educational ideas which cause travel AS+Pl-Ap = Many trips AS+Ze-Su = Travel by train Su+Ju-Me = Success through travel I know that the software Aureas gives a listing like the above, and probably other softwares that I am not aware of at the moment. My favourite childhood memory is my holidays with my parents. I have ME+SA-JU in exaltation = MO in 3rd House. Blessings! Quote Fri Aug 11, 2023 9:58 am
4 by Dima Gur Deb hello, First off, thanks for replying, I always feel much honored when one of my astrology mentors replays to me. Second, This is actually elections which are done for a client. A client who's well off, and usually flies business (a mitigating factor, of sorts ) Almost always I root the chart and check it as a transit chart against my client's natal. Have to say, it doesn't always 'do the trick'. Am still considering to alter my client's flight elections for the time she leaves her house towards the flight (steps out of the doorway, as the sources tell us). Also a member of another forum hinted, rather wisely, that maybe I should use the time she orders the tickets as the most vital "beginning" of that sort of an election. An idea worth experimenting with. If you don't mind me asking, what's your technical methodology for travel/flight elections? Is it using the common factors such as: Planets in 9th and 9th ruler as the flight. The moon as the journey in general. Planets in the 1st and ASC-ruler as the person who takes the flight. Mercury as a general significator. Part of journeys maybe (asc + 9h - 9r - non reverse in night) * fortifying all of the above Ouranos: thanks for the Uranian approach, but as my knowledge of Uranian is rather limited, I'd rather stick to astrology branches which I try to specialize in. https://www.gurastro.com Quote Sat Aug 12, 2023 4:46 pm
5 by Ouranos I understand you prefer to work with what you are most familiar. I do the same. But if you please, let me give you an example of what kind of information you can get with midpoints. Jean-Louis Lebris de Kérouac known as Jack Kerouac, was a French-Canadian American novelist and poet who, alongside William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, was a pioneer of the Beat Generation. He published 'On The Road' in April 1951. The book was largely autobiographical and describes Kerouac's road-trip adventures across the United States and Mexico with Neal Cassady in the late 40s and early 50s, as well as his relationships with other Beat writers and friends. Although some of the novel is focused on driving, Kerouac did not have a driver's license and Cassady did most of the cross-country driving. He learned to drive aged 34, but never had a formal license. On the Road has been an influence on various poets, writers, actors and musicians, including Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Jim Morrison, Jerry Garcia, David Bowie and Hunter S. Thompson. (Wiki) Kerouac often based his fictional characters on friends and family (MO=ME/SA) And he has this Moon right on the ASC! Some keywords given by the Rulebook 'En route (On the road). Driving fast. Travel companions' We also find the midpoint Mercury/Admetos in the same planetary picture 'Profound thinker.' and MO=ME/AD - 'Drive, ride, journey. People on a vehicle.' AS=ME/AD - 'Intercourse with people who sit much like office personnel or any crew of a vehicle.' Not bad to consider Mercury/Saturn in traveling questions. Best to you, Ouranos Blessings! Evangeline Adams suggested having horary and electional charts matched against our natal chart. Suppose I ask if I should travel today. The chart looks good but some of those planets are in hard aspect to my natal planets or Mars Falls on the 3rd house. I'd have reservations about doing that trip Quote Wed Dec 13, 2023 10:01 pm
