Use of 'should I stay or should I go' technique, & possible alternatives 1 by Dima Gur Hello good people of Skyscript :-) * New moon got me in a good mood As an Israeli national, lately I've been getting a lot of 'should I stay, or should I move to Canada/UK/Portugal/Else' questions. If you're not familiar with the technique for this type of questions, please check Frawley's Horary Textbook chapter on 7th house questions, or Lilly's 7th house chapter. It's there somewhere and other horary authorities also give this subject a treatment, I'm sure. It seems to me, though, that different horary authors treat the subject in a rather simplistic manner. E.g. to stay is better or to relocate is better, type of solution. Querents on the other hand (at least the querents which come to me) are interested to know about how the relocation will effect their spouses, children, pets, career path, finances, et cetera. This got me tempted to look for a non 7th house significator for the country they want to relocate to. I'm considering the 9th, but am wary due to the fact it's a cadent house, plus that this thinking is "too modern". Even more cautiously, I was considering the 10th, as the house which signifies the 'goal' or 'aim'. Not sure about this one either. I do wonder if anyone else faced such dilemmas and which solution were employed (if any) to try and solve the issue. Thanks, Dima. https://www.gurastro.com Quote Mon Nov 13, 2023 6:09 pm
Re: Use of 'should I stay or should I go' technique, & possible alternatives 2 by astrojin Hello, Querents on the other hand (at least the querents which come to me) are interested to know about how the relocation will effect their spouses, children, pets, career path, finances, et cetera. Yes..., I've had these type of questions too. This is where we shall then have to consider looking into the natal chart as well (if this is possible). If we just stick to horary, then I would probe the client so that he rephrase his queries to what he really wants to know. Most of the time it is not about the relocation but other things like career progression, safety/security, new life altogether, etc. In this case, your thinking of using other significators is certainly justified. However, the rules of change (like the one presented by Frawley or others) still apply. I'm considering the 9th, but am wary due to the fact it's a cadent house, plus that this thinking is "too modern". Traditional astrology would assign cadent houses for "away from home" as they are analogies of "away from kentron/cardine/angle" by primary motion. Why only 3rd and 9th for trips? Because these 2 are the cadent houses that aspect the ascendant - they represent voluntary moves. The 12th is also "moving away" but it is the house of exile - as it does not see the first house (in aversion). The sixth - well... it is not the "away from an angle" that represents the native as the associated angle of the 6th is seventh = "others"! Naturally, astrologers would want to differentiate the third and the ninth - the simplification of 3rd = short trips and 9th = long journeys is probably modern invention though it is probably partially derived by analogy from the traditional significations... In short, I would definitely ask the client to explain a bit further the reasons for their wanting to move. I will then use the appropriate houses related to the "real" queries while observing the rules of change. If a person simply ask whether country A or country B, astrocartography might provide an answer. For other "more difficult cases", we shall apply the mystical dictum... "Let the Chart Speaks!". What I mean by this is that, in horary proper, we assign the houses once we have understood the query but before we look into chart. There are times that this is very difficult if not impossible. Hence, we look into chart and let the chart decides the house assignments itself. BUT, we should confirm the current conditions of the native using the assigned houses/planets before making predictive judgment. Why not use this all the time? Well, you know why! Humans are humans and we are easily swayed by what we want rather than what we need! Have fun! Quote Tue Nov 14, 2023 9:30 pm
Re: Use of 'should I stay or should I go' technique, & possible alternatives 3 by Dima Gur Astrojin hi I might use ACG, but current client has only one destination she's considering (London). The cadent houses point is a good one. I wonder how the 6th cadency is expressed in terms of "falling from"? Foreign workers maybe. I'm not sure as to 3d vs 9th as short vs long journeys being a modern invention. I'll try to check. I know for fact that Bonatti had this distinction, in his electional book and Bonatti is a medieval source (13th cent.). Best D https://www.gurastro.com Quote Mon Nov 20, 2023 3:28 pm
