Given all the current media reports on wanting Biden to step aside and let Kamala Harris run in his stead, I've been pondering her charts for the last week. As with any chart, the astrology is only half the problem, the other half is understanding the person's life in the context of the present moment and there is a lot of noise around Harris at the moment; I could easily be reading the astrology, the context, or both, incorrectly, so, with that said...

In a nutshell, I think there's been pressure on Biden to step aside since at least March or early May. Originally, I thought that there was a chance Harris might become the Democratic Candidate around the time of the convention; however, on going through all the charts again, they appear to indicate there is a chance she may become the Presidential nominee, but it's a chance of a promise that is unlikely to be realized; a promise that also holds the possibility of her being replaced as the VP nominee. In any case, it looks like her status will change and not for the better. Astrological reasoning is as follows:

The Radix Chart The 10th of career is ruled by a retrograde, peregrine Jupiter in the 12th (illness, enemies, imprisonment) and also ruling the 7th (partners, conflict).

Aspects

• Jupiter square Mars (applying 2°43'), with Mars a natural malefic, peregrine in Leo in the 3rd (siblings, communications, skills) in a separating sextile with its dispositor, the Sun (honours), who is in Fall in the 5th (elections)
• Jupiter separating square Saturn (4°27') - Saturn is the contrary to sect malefic stationary direct in domicile and term in the 9th conjunct the MC (3°57') trine the Asc and Asc ruler (Mercury) with Mars applying to an opposition
• Uranus, Pluto and Venus determined to the 10th by opposition - the three form an opposing stellium to the 10th, all are disposited by Mercury, the Asc ruler who throws a close trine to the (0°57') MC

All of these planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Uranus, Pluto, Venus and Mercury) are determined to her 10th.

Saturn is strongly determined by his conjunction with the MC and his square to Jupiter, ruler of the 10th. As he has the best celestial state vis a vis the other planets determined to the 10th he is the most likely to manifest a career that raises her status but not without difficulties.

Fixed Stars
Harris has two fixed stars conjunct her MC and one conjunct her Asc (descriptions are from The Living Stars, Dr. Eric Morse, Amethyst Books, 1988 and Janus 6.0 software):

• Sa'ad Al Malik (Sadalmelik) "Luck, or Fortune, of the King" at 2 PI on the MC, nature of Saturn-Mercury, in the right shoulder of the constellation of Aquarius, "it is an indicator of the most brilliant success and favour for those in authority, and a sign that they will put it to good use if they have it well aspected" but it also carries a warning that if the good fortune is not shared or used in "the advance of the entire human species and the planet it dwells on" misfortune will ensue. Janus connects the star to lawyers and complicated lawsuits; and says it sometimes warns of misfortune.
  
  The star is directly determined to Harris by sharing the nature of, and being in the applying trine of her Asc ruler, Mercury, from the 5th (elections). Mercury is peregrine and burnt, separating (3°) from the Sun.
• Fom Al Hut (Fomalhut) "Mouth of the Fish" at 3 Pisces, nature of Venus-Mercury, usually considered a malefic in mundane and political affairs. In a natal chart it "shows up a good talent and a ready will to speak out when necessary, and to contribute new ideas and thinking when they are most needed. If not so well aspected, there can be a tendency to 'speak with the tongues of angels, yet be but an empty sounding bass'." It is also within the trine of the Asc ruler Mercury.
• Al Hecka (Tianguan) on the Asc at 24 Gemini; has the nature of Mars and is located on the tip of bull's horn in the constellation of Taurus, traditionally seen as an unfortunate star; it marks "a combative nature with the tongue, and sometimes manually too, which can lead to misfortune, although the victim may well be convinced it is 'all for the cause', and that the 'reward in Heaven' will compensate for the suffering here below." Janus 6.0 describes it as "a violent star portending accidents and misfortune".

Given the testimony of Saturn conjunct the MC in the 9th of law square Jupiter (L10) and that of the fixed star Sadalmelik, it is significant that Harris has a law degree and worked as a district attorney, with the position aiding her political rise; however, as an accidental benefic, he is likely to both grant a higher status which is later rescinded.

Distribution (Progrogation, Circumambulation) From April 19, 2020 until February 4, 2029 the distribution will be in 11° to 17° Leo in the terms (Egyptian) of Saturn; notably, Harris became vice-president shortly after her 56th birthday when her profected Asc was in Aquarius, the 9th sign from the rising sign, on the radix 9th, and containing Saturn conjunct the MC.

• Saturn is determined to Harris'
  • career by his conjunction (3°) with the MC and his square to Jupiter (L10).
  • life by his trine to the Asc (4°) and in an out of sign trine to the Asc ruler, Mercury (4°); the trine falls in Cancer where Mercury has no authority so it looks strong and promising but may well be ineffective in the end
• Saturn is capable of producing harm to the career from enemies through the square of Jupiter (in 12th, L7, L10) and friends, co-workers, or through military matters by the opposition of Mars (in 3rd, L11, L6).
• If, in the distribution, we ignore unmitigated semi-sextiles and modern planets, Saturn has been sharing by square with Mercury (Asc ruler) since September 2007; Mercury is in the radix 5th (elections) and determined to the 10th by a close (1°) trine to the MC.

Saturn, to date, does not appear to have harmed Harris' rise in the world; rather, being an accidental benefic, he has most likely helped her rise through persistent effort.

If we include the modern planets, Saturn, since October 2022, has been sharing by an unmitigated semi-sextile with Uranus and a conjunction with the contrascion of Neptune. Uranus, who is in the 4th, co-rules the 9th, and disposits Saturn, is apt to throw up the unexpected in relation to communications,law or publicity, and as the semi-sextile is unmitigated, the unexpected is nature of his events is enhanced; she will not see them coming. Neptune, who co-rules the radix 10th and is in the 6th of work, employees, and the military, is trine the 10th. Neptune can be unrealistic, idealistic or suffer from disillusionment; whatever the situation, critical thinking and analysis are not his forte.

Profection The profection is in Taurus, the 12th from the rising sign. Venus should be the lord of the year but Jupiter, at 24 Taurus, is conjunct the profected 1st so he manages the year instead. He rules the profected 8th and 11th which may indicate friends, advisors (11th) causing harm (8th, 12th) to her career (10th).

OA Directions 2023

• the directed lot of Success is critical throughout the year at 0 SA in the radix 6th of injury, employees, military; the radix lot (24 CP) is ruled by Saturn but now it is in Jupiter's domicile and Jupiter in this chart is an accidental malefic. The radix lot is in a mitigated inconjunct (opposition) with directed Mars.
• directed Mars (24 GE) moved to conjunct the radix Asc between February 20 and March 20 and will remain there for the year; during the same period directed Pluto (coercion or cooperation) moved to inconjunct radix Saturn so it looks as if she will be battling (Mars) for career (10th) success through out most of the year
• directed Saturn (9 CP), managing the distribution, is at the bending of the directed nodal axis (9 AR-LI) which falls across the radix 11th/5th pointing to a critical juncture in the life and during the same period (May 20 to June 20) the directed Sun will move to the IC (lowest point) at 2 Virgo in opposition to the radix MC. The Sun is in his Fall in the 5th, rules the radix 3rd and there has been a lot of talk of the Dems possibly losing the election because of Biden's (Sun?) health (his lot of illness became active during this same period)
• directed Neptune (27 VI) has been in a mitigated semi-sextile (conjunction) with the radix Sun throughout the year, it will move to 26 VI between August 20 and September 20 pointing to a resolution to unclear conditions affecting the election (Sun in radix 5th) or her status (Sun); the timing coincides with the Democratic Convention which starts August 19th.
• the directed lot of Victory (6 LI) moves to 5 LI, inconjunct directed Jupiter (5 PI) just before July 20. The inconjunct is unmitigated, indicating the possibility an unlooked for result, that a Victory that will not be realized

Maiora and Minora Esse
Taking a look at the convention period (Aug 19-22), in the maiora esse:

• MC at 27 Pisces will be in the radix 10th creating a T-Square with her radix Sun/Moon opposition
• 11th (support) is critical at 0 TA in the opposition of radix Mercury (L1)
• Saturn at 23 Pisces will be in a mitigated sextile (trine) with the directed lot of Small Victory
• Wisdom & Patience is critical at 0 VI (2° of the IC)
• Mastery is critical at 29 Leo

This looks like she may get confirmed as the VP rather than Presidential candidate? or possibly dropped as VP (small Victory is ruled by Jupiter, accidental malefic)

Minora Esse

• the Sun (0 VI) and Moon (0 PI) will both be critical on Aug 19, the first day of the convention with their opposition falling across the MC/IC axis

I'm not entirely sure of her Jupiter in these scenarios. His position in the 12th as ruler of the 10th and 7th coupled with the squares from Saturn and Mars paints him as an accidental malefic; however, it also points to a rise in life because of enemies. She did become a DA in San Francisco and the Attorney General of California, both of which could be considered a rise because of criminals (enemies). The indications appear to point a change in status, with possibly a loss of status. I've only just begun to try forecasting with these methods in charts other than personal ones, so as usual, time will tell.

Solar Return 2023 In the SR for the year, the Asc is ruled by Mercury (radix Asc ruler); he also rules the profected 10th. SR Mercury in Libra cannot see radix Mercury in Scorpio, a bad indication for the year.

Mercury is combust in the 2nd, separating from the Sun (trying to get out from under Biden?) who is with the South Node (destructive); in triplicity (support of friends, associates) in MR with Venus, in the 11th from Libra reinforcing support from friends and associates; Venus and the dignity of triplicity may be protecting Harris from attacks by enemies or helping to mitigate the combustion (planet in their chariots are protected from combustion and MR, according to Robert Schmidt, is the next best thing to being in the dignity of domicile or exaltation). They are disposited by Venus in Fall in Virgo in the 12th; the career advice she's getting harms her.

The combination is in an overcoming square with Pluto (coercion) in the 5th which appears to be indicating the pair are putting pressure on the election process that is splitting party authorities (Pluto in Capricorn). Pluto likes to do things by committee and to split groups into opposing factions.

Saturn (ruler of the distribution) is critical at 0 Pisces and ruling the SR 5th of elections; he is also stationary retro (in the radix he was stationary direct), conjunct (2°) his radix self, and he is peregrine, so no where near as strong as his radix self.

The fixed star Tianguan which was on the radix Asc, and promises misfortune, is now within 5° of the SR MC. The Moon, ruler of the SR 11th (aspirations, friends) is angular in the 4th and Neptune (sharing in the distribution?) is angular in the 7th (partners, opponents).

It is also hard to ignore Mars strong in domicile in the 2nd with the South Node, Sun, Moon grouping and in opposition to the 8th which he rules and contains Jupiter (ruler of the radix 10th); fear over the career and life?

It's possible there will be misfortune in the year with Saturn taking back what he gave in 2020.

Election Study

The election will take place shortly after her 60th birthday putting the profection in Gemini, the rising sign. Looks to be more about her becoming the Democratic candidate rather than as someone who could win the election.

OA Directions 2024
Between her birthday on October 20 and November 20, 2024 (the election is November 5) her

• lot of Success, critical at 0 SA, moves to critical at 29 SC
• directed MC moves from 4 CP to 3 CP pointing to a change in status during the month
• directed 3rd moves from 12 GE to 11 GE (the axis falling across the radix 12th/11th) where it will be in the mitigated sextile (trine) of directed Uranus

So an unexpected change in status around the election date.

Solar Return 2024 Looking at the SR for the period, Jupiter rules the Asc and is in his detriment in Gemini and his square falls into the 10th, also in his sign of detriment (Virgo) with the South Node in the 10th which does not look good for her career. SR Jupiter cannot see radix Jupiter, a bad indication for the year.

And with that Saturn, the distributor and strongly determined to the radix 10th, is at the SR IC peregrine and opposition to the SR 10, mimicking the position of the directed Sun, another indication of a possible fall in status in a year when the Asc/Desc signs are reversed and going against the natural flow of her radix energies.

As well, Mercury, radix Asc ruler and ruler of the SR 10th, is on the cusp of the SR 12th. None of which paints a good picture for the year ahead.

one reason i have been reluctant to comment on this election, aside from being burned in a previous one thanks the time i used for hilary which was later shown to be wrong, is the time for biden here.. i think the chart being used - 830am - is wrong... it makes no sense for me to comment on something when i don't have confidence in the chart for the candidate.. i think his birth time is more likely to be 730am ish...

Hi James ... I could just as easily be burned; posting publicly to keep myself honest...lol.

A level of confidence would apply if I was doing this as a reading for another person but here, it's just an exercise in prediction; I may be misreading the context, the astrology, or both and if I am I'm hoping I can come back to this and figure out where and why I went wrong; only way I can think of to force improvement. If I end up with egg on my face, so be it. Either way, fingers crossed I (and possibly others) can learn something from the exercise. I'm particularly curious to see if the out-of-sign aspects act in a fashion similar to their behaviour in horary re: new conditions triggering or deflating events.

i think it's a good exercise either way... you go about working thru the details and perhaps redefine what you think is most important in your astrological toolbox... there are so many subjective factors to astrology, it is always difficult to pinpoint what is more relevant then not.. at least that is my conundrum.. i have never liked simple answers, maybe that is another part of my conundrum... in fact i am border line an unbeliever in astrology!! but ultimately i want to believe... how much of what we see is self fulfilling prophecy, verses something that can be replicated?? it seems to me it could almost be a coin toss, although i am loath to believe that also.. see my predicament? lol..

I do...as the saying goes "I believe; help me in my unbelief". Personally I'm working on Northrop Frye's definition of faith as hope realized; faithfully operating as if the core beliefs are true in the hope it becomes self-evident they are true...lol

As I understand the situation, the options for Kamala Harris are difficult. Biden’s situation is right now between rick and hard place, devil and deep blue. I am surprised Biden hasnt anything more than transiting Uranus opp sun venus at present. goes to show that he personally is unaffected by his life events and is just subject to release of relationships and change of life. Well he deserves some peace and quiet to transition. The next set of eclipses also look favourable for slipping off to home and transitioning to quieter pastures.

The problem then is with his position and his inner circle of caretakers who need and insist on maintaining status quo but who are feeling this slip between their fingers by circumstance they have intentionally disregarded because they would terminate their need and hold to second hand power.

Kamala Harris as I understand, and I dont pretend to know much about US politics, is that she was simoly a candidate of colour picked out of obscurity and thrust into limelight. She has changed much over the period but is still deeply unpopular.

Why she has come into the limelight now is because of her position as vice president. with Biden in difficulties and the bad timing with some states no longer open to amending Democrat nominations, the timing is set for a difficult decision. If they dont replace Biden he will continue to be a figure of ridicule and cant win for them. But they can replace him as candidate. So they can elevate only Kamala Harris to President and go with her…but…. She is deeply unpopular and Trump will make mince meat of her. Given Trump popularity either decision is a no-go. And thats all the handlers and carers have as solution. They have painted themselves into a very tight spot. Its lose lose.

I would be extremely surprised if she was nominated and even more surprised if she won the presidency with such slim transits. But then if I recall back, I think Obama also had similar zero indicators for transits for his elevation to president . Just another unremarkable day in life of…. So who knows?

Kamala’s chart shows she has right now saturn opposing her stellium of pluto venus uranus for deep opposition and cutting of ties as well as pluto sq mercury for pressing forced decisions and later from September onwards to next year, the lunar eclipse opposing that stellium and taking her through the election …..which she cannot win.

So it looks to me she is terminal. But again….who knows?

i don't know northrop frye's work, although he is a canuck and his birthday was 2 days ago! it appears he studied some of the famous poets of the past - william blake in particular.... william blake was very much into the concepts of faith and belief as i understand it and dreams too.... good luck in your studies jane! if you find the answers - do let us know!!

i think kamala harris was chosen because she ticks off a couple of important boxes - a women and she is black for the politically correct crowd... maybe she has talent and abilities, but not from anything i have personally witnessed.... she seems like a nice lady, but there are a lot of them in the world today... i suppose she is quite ambitious too..

I hadn't considered this, Pluto is coercion, I took it to mean she might be pressing based on advice she's getting but perhaps its the opposite, as you say.

After what has happened with Trump I'm now a little more concerned about her directed Sun on the radix IC and directed Mars on her radix Asc especially with Mars on the IC in the profected chart. About the time of the convention, in the minora esse, Mars will conjunct radix Asc, and directed Mars; that's a lot of Mars energy. Hopefully it only means a lot of travel or campaigning.

I am not a negative person. Good can come from everything.

Mars energy is good in the hands of a superior energy user. The problem is when too much is given to a novice that our reptilian brain gets a look in and it all goes to hell in a hand basket.

Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday, July 21, 2024 and then tweeted his support of Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee. Looking at what stands out in the directions for the period July 20 to August 20, 2024.

OA Directions

• the cusp of the directed 2nd is moving from 16 TA to 15 TA, so out of the opposition of radix Neptune and into the trine of radix Pluto; it is also occupying the degree of the radix 12th (profection year)

Indicates the focus for the period will be on finances, that she will be personally affected, and there are coercive (Pluto) and backdoor (12th) elements to event during this period. This reinforces the indications in the profection. Pluto is in the 4th (in opposition to those in authority), he is also in the profected 4th so reinforcing his radix indications, and in the SR 5th (elections).

As Pluto sends his square to 15 GE in the 12th, the OA directions are reinforcing his natal indications; and removing (trine) obstacles (radix square).

Maiora Esse - profected chart moved through 30° with 1° of longitude=12.175 days

• the 3rd (communication) is critical at 29 Leo
• the MC (24 PI) is square directed Mars (24 GE) which is conjunct the radix Asc
• the 11th is at 27 AR conjunct the radix Moon and in opposition to the radix Sun (27 LI) (friends supporting her separation from Biden?). These fall in the profected 12th and SR 8th; highlighting backdoor dealing and financial support as key matters. The Sun rules the SR Asc.
• Jupiter (LoY at 16 GE) is square the directed lot of Exaltation (16 AR)
• Mercury (ruler of radix and profected 1st at 23 SC) is in a doubled square with the directed SAN (23 LE)

The Asc rulers in the radix, profection, and SR are all active. Mars and the squares point to battles connected with her status (MC, Exaltation, SAN) and financial supports (8th) with a communication (3rd) being critical. Indications that reinforce the tenor of the OA directions.

• the North Node is critical at 29 PI
• the MC (6 SA) is within trine of the radix 3rd (7 LE) and square directed Mercury (7 VI)
• the Asc (28 PI) is trine directed Pluto (28 CA)
• Mars (25 TA) is trine the directed Moon (25 CP)
• Jupiter (25 AQ) is conjunct radix Saturn

Pointing to a critical period (N. Node) involving a favourable (trines) communication (Mercury, 3rd) related to her status, career (MC, Jupiter, Saturn)

Since I'm a U.S. citizen and live only a short distance from Kamala's birth place, Oakland, California (where my husband was employed), I should be participating in these election discussions. But due to health issues and old age slowness (Yes, I can sympathize with Biden!) I'm lagging behind. Anyway, here is today's news (Tuesday, 23 July 2024):

Robert Garcia said in a tweet posted after the Chronicle [San Francisco newspaper] first reported the move.

The Moon is on Kamala's MC today and partile trine her natal Mercury, ascendant lord (Gemini rising) which conjoins the Sun.
