A Proposal for an AI-Visualized Adaptation of William Lilly's Autobiography

1
Dear Skyscript community, and with great respect to Ms. Deb Houlding,
My name is Wei, and I am a long-time admirer of William Lilly's work and the invaluable resources this forum provides. I am writing to you today not just as a creator, but as a student of history, to propose a project and humbly seek the guidance of this community's profound expertise.
My vision is to adapt William Lilly's autobiography into a visually rich series, stylistically akin to a BBC period drama, using emerging AI video technologies. The goal is to make his extraordinary life and the vibrant astrological world of 17th-century England accessible and engaging for a new generation, while staying as faithful as possible to the historical spirit of the source material.
I have created a very brief proof-of-concept—a 10-second teaser and some character stills—to offer a preliminary glimpse of the aesthetic. They are attached below.

a 10-second teaser

However, I am fully aware of the immense responsibility this undertaking entails. As an individual creator, and with my native language being Chinese, I recognize my own limitations, especially in capturing the subtle nuances of the period. This, combined with a recent need to rest my eyes, has made it clear that this project can only succeed with the wisdom and collaboration of true experts.
Therefore, my proposal for collaboration is as follows:
• My Role (Director/Artistic Lead): I will manage the technical production with AI tools and hold the final artistic decisions to ensure a consistent vision and project progression.
• A Call for Expert Advisors: This is where I truly need your help. I am looking for collaborators or advisors who could offer guidance on historical accuracy—from costume and set details to script consultation and, of course, authentic-sounding voice-over performances. Your feedback would be invaluable in preventing historical inaccuracies and genuinely honoring Lilly's legacy.

For organization, we have two platforms: our Facebook Group for general updates, and a Discord server for detailed, hands-on collaboration and discussion. All are welcome.

Thank you for considering this proposal. Any feedback, criticism, or guidance you might offer would be deeply appreciated. My ultimate hope is to create something that this community, dedicated to preserving astrological heritage, can be proud of.
With sincere gratitude,
Wei

Hi Wei - what an interesting prospect. I'd not considered the possibility of this sort of historical recreation using AI. It looks like film stars are going the way of accountants and lawyers! Good luck with this project. I'm afraid I don't use Facebook and know nothing about Discord so will keep updated through any posts you make here.

All the best. Ed

Sounds great Wei!

As astrologers, we are translators. We interpret the sky. The disappearance of the profession of translator seems far from utopian. The translation program at the University of Ottawa in Canada was recently suspended, and the one at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia has been permanently closed. A translator recently reported that he now receives more post-editing contracts than translation contracts (reviewing machine translations).
AI has most likely read all articles on Skyscript. Intellectual property has become an issue today. We saw it with the medias and AI.
