The opening game: Brazil v Croatia seems a clear win for Brazil, as Janis has shown. However I have a slight reservation and am inclined to consider a draw. For such a strong team as Brazil, who are the hosts, not to win the opening match would be a significant upset, but deserves consideration.

I want to suggest different significators, based on shirt colours. The Croatia red and white shits suggests a strong Mars influence. White on its own or as the dominant element is the Moon, but I have found that Red and White combined like this is usually Mars. Also, the yellow of Brazil suggests the Sun, but I have found in horse racing that yellow silks are often indicated by Venus.

Venus is in aversion to the rising sign, and the PoF is applying to trine Mars. Mars is disposed by Venus in its own sign, but in the 6th.

Overall, I'm not sure how to weigh all this (and conflicting indicators make me think draw), but I doubt it will be the easy win for Brazil that everyone seems to expect.

Janis seems to have put in quite an effort providing the standard overview of all the match details, and we all seem to have agreed regarding our basic thoughts regarding the first match. Well judged by GB, too.

There were some questions regarding the quality of this first chart, which was not radical and had this sort of conflicting mix between the Moon and Mercury. I think we saw it in how the match played out and think Croatia kept their pose quite well considering how some of the referee decisions turned against them.

I think it was an advantage to be placed in the 'Live' market, because this gave me the opportunity to hold back and let things get started before entering at the best price as prices fluctated when Croatia got their goal. Then it was possible exit later into the game and take a profit, thus adjusting my commitment and reduce risk. That was a good start.

Anyhow, that is the 1st match done:

Mercury L7 & L10 retro in 7 looked like an own goal to me, and i've seen that happen somewhere before too, although i thought it would be Croatia that would concede it. I don't think one can really underestimate the gigantic pressure that Brazil is under in this tournament - i think it's so huge that they're always likely to make the odd gaff or two.

I think that the various strategies prior to the first match was discussed rather well and that we all appeared to have contributed and done our homework. :-)
