The early death of Jose Ortega

1
Jose Ortega was one of the greatest bullfighters. In his horoscope he has the Sun and Mercury in conjunction in the X house (in the sign of Taurus related to the bull!). Jupiter is in exact sextile to the MC.

Mars in a damaged cosmic condition and in conjunction with the XII house definitely contributed to his violent death where he gets fatally gored by a bull in the ring.

Saturn is in conjunction with the IC (end of life) and the rulers of the IC and VIII (death), both malefics, are in conjunction.

Helio Mars is in conjunction with the AS. Orb: ~4

Maybe if he knew about astrology, he would have cut his bull-fighting career short and extended his life.

Sometimes the placement that activates an interest in an endeavour can be a very dangerous one if it involves damaged malefics.

thanks fadi,

the way you have posted here gives me something to talk about - astrology!

i would say even if he knew astrology he would have lived the life he lived and went and did the things he did... i can't know what it was like to live in spain in the early 20th century and be involved in bull fighting, but i can comment on the chart..

i would say bullfighting is certainly an unorthodox career choice and that perhaps the exact aspect of sun opp uranus speaks to this some..

here is the page on him from adb - https://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Ortega,_Jose_Gomez

the time you've gotten from isaacs software is slightly different then the time given at adb.. it is not that much though - 1 degree difference on the ascendant and midheaven...

in indian astrology they have a system for figuring out whether one is going to live a short, medium or long life... i have read the details, but won't dig them up here for this purpose..

the date of his death is may 16th 1920 - 8 days after his 25th birthday.... an eclipse took place on may 3th 1920, very close to his birthday and the sun- moon opposition on his chart.. this kind of supports the importance of an eclipse landing on an important part of a persons chart... i am sure if someone wanted to they could tie this into the timing of his death too.. i would just like to point out the importance of the position of jupiter in the data, both in the eclipse chart, but also in it's position on the date of his death at 10 leo 40 something ( all tropical positions here)- depending on what time his death occurred on the 16th...

why is this relevant? a few reasons... his moon is at 10 scorpio 52 and the moon is the ruler of the 12th house here... jupiter is the ruler of the 8th house... so why does having the ruler of the 8th house transiting the ascendant display itself as death here??

in terms of violence, i tend to always think of mars, but if i am going to include an outer planet - it is going to be mars with pluto... maybe it works with other outers too, but just for fun, take a look at the midpoint of mars- pluto in jose ortegas chart... the midpoint is at about 25 gemini and change... this puts it 135 his natal moon and 45 to the transiting jupiter in the time for his death... so why should all this matter??

you know it is interesting how different astrologers come up with concepts about why things happen when they do... we all do this.. there is so much subjectivity in astrology, or maybe a better word is 'art', that a person can get overwhelmed with it all.. i like thinking of it like art seeing patterns where others might not see them, or seeing different patterns then another person might see..

i'd also say that someone with a mars- jupiter conjunction in their chart might be inclined to express a greater degree of confidence that would be warranted, but that it might get them thru life in a really positive way, most of the time... having transiting jupiter square moon and conjunct the ascendant would sound like too much of a good thing to me and someone who was foolhardy enough might be inclined to make decisions based on a lack of discrimination, thinking confidence was enough to get them thru life..

i guess what i am sort of saying is that jupiter, although defined as a benefic in a general sense in astrology, might not be all it is cracked up to be all the time.. these are all thoughts to ponder...

if you leave the chart as it stands at adb - solar arc mars directly squares onto the midheaven for the date of his death too, but either way - 1 degree or less is not a lot to get worked up about.. thanks for sharing the chart and expressing your thoughts on it too!

I looked up his natal Phaethon, as in Eric Morse's Dark Stars not the asteroid, and it is 18 degrees Leo, antiscion 12 degrees Taurus.

This squares his Sun and Uranus, and its antiscion squares his Ascendant and oppositions his Moon. Also his Sun's antiscion is conjunct his Ascendant.

I had a feeling Phaethon would be strong in that chart.

At his death, on 16th May 1920, Phaethon was 5 degrees Aries.

Also his natal IsisTranspluto is 8 degrees Cancer 22 minutes, quite close to his natal Mars.

At age 25 when he died, his Solar Arc converse Midheaven was about 9 degrees Aries 21 minutes, squaring his natal Mars and IsisTranspluto. (Apologies to James, I just read your comments and realise you said the same thing in different terms, and also James noted that the Astro databank chart gives the Ascendant 12 degrees Leo 12 minutes, I wasn't going to point it out).

The Astro databank Midheaven is 3 degrees Taurus 15 minutes, which makes a 22.5 degree aspect to Mars.

Although the Midheaven in Fadi's chart also aspects Mars.

The Moons Nodes are 45 degrees to the Midheaven either way.

As well as denoting fame, this Moons Nodes to chart angles twists the Midheaven from "closed" to "open", and aspecting Mars makes Mars also open, which is then beneficial when IsisTranspluto being natally conjunct Mars opens it. Neptune in Leo had about a year earlier in 1919 been squaring his Midheaven, closing something that should be open, and this could be triggered by Chiron in 9 degrees Aries at the time of death on May 16th 1920.

5
His Phaethon is square his Sun, and I have noticed that maybe when Phaethon aspects the Sun (hard aspects only and one degree orb) then the Moon is twisted from its usual "closed" to become "open". As well as affecting the good-bad major long term transit of IsisTranspluto in the lifetime, there may have been issues with his mother and father.

Phaethon aspecting the Sun natally is an important pattern. His father would have been significant. And you also have the myth of Phaethon crashing the Sun's chariot.

fleur,

thanks for pointing out the 22.5 connection between mars and the earlier midheaven degree.. that is relevant... as for some of your other ideas - i don't follow phaethon and isis, but you seem to enjoy working with them, so - that is cool..

cheers james
