this is a post on the present state of affairs with the international organization that continues to be an important player on the world stage for resolving political differences.. it was set up to do just this in 1945 after the 2nd world war... it celebrated its 79th birthday yesterday ( united nations day) - oct 24th with the secretary general of the UN at present - antonio guterres being in kazan for the important BRICs meeting that has just happened oct 22-24th.. this has caused some discomfort in some in the west.. in fact, the UN and its s. general have been given an unusually harsh ride of late.. there are a few wikipedia links for the united nations and etc, along with a post i did a year ago here at skyscript on the united nations and the role of antonio guterres in all of this..

it seems to me the united nations could continue to play an important role on the world stage, although it has had its challenges and they are ongoing.. aside from the ongoing conflicts in ukraine and the middle east, there is also the question of updating the format to include important world players that weren't considered back in1945 - india for example, but also the african and south american countries.. whether the 5 seats at the security council could change to include others, or the set up could change, to be more reflective of what is happening on the world stage at present is a part of the challenge for the UN here.. with that in mind, i wanted to consider the solar return and transits for the UN.. i thought it would be rewarding to consider both the sidereal and tropical charts for the UN, as the 2024 solar returns and data that one might get from these 2 different zodiacs might be of interest for conversation among the folks at skyscript...

below is the tropical chart for the UN based off the time given in the astro.com link above - oct 24th, 1945 - 445pm washington dc. the angles for relocating to new york city where the meetings and the un building is located don't change very much..



the first observation i would make on the chart is the ruler of the ascendant - mars, is conjunct the ruler of the 10th house - saturn and that they are both in the sign of their fall - cancer.. this might be a raja yoga in indian astrology, but it is effectively useless due the sign position they are in- cancer... now it was guido bonati i believe who made a focus on the mars-saturn conjunction in cancer as the beginning of the mars-saturn cycle.. i can't find the reference, but he says something to the effect if mars-saturn is found in the revolution in the 4th it indicates destruction of buildings.. i suppose it bodes ill for 4th house matters either way.. the conjunction is loosely square the ascendant degree as well.. the chart is mostly western hemisphere emphasis which is good for the tendency to relate to others, as the focus is more on this, especially with the sun in the 7th house area of the chart and the 2 benefics not far off the descendant in the sign libra.. venus, ruler of the 7th applies to a conjunction with the 9th and 12th house rulers which would be construed as favourable as well.. venus is in an exact conjunction with the other planet neptune here as well, so the idealism of the idea of cooperating with others would be captured here too.... perhaps because they are further back off the descendant and into the general 6th house area implies they have less ability to act and are more at the mercy of outer forces.. perhaps an interesting midpoint to consider is the sun-neptune midpoint which is very close to the descendant degree, putting greater emphasis on this combo as i see it - again idealism marks this duo and perhaps the whole concept of diplomacy is captured in the symbolism of them too...

below is the solar return for 2024 in tropical -



a few things - jupiter in detriment, retro above the horizon in a wide square to saturn the other planet in the 10th house area of the chart, doesn't seem all that convincing of accomplishing much for 2024 -2025 year... mars has returned to its natal place and is in a conjunction with moon in cancer.. it is in a 1 degree conjunction to the natal saturn in the 1945 chart... all in all - the chart seems challenging for these reasons.. it is in an 8th profection year - scorpio, thus the emphasis on mars position is warranted here.. the biwheel with natal on the inside and 2024 solar return on the outside appears below..



a quick word on the transits to this chart at present... aside from the mars repetition in the solar return chart, we see the outer planet saturn, neptune and north node in the 12th house area of the chart implying the kind of potential to begin a new cycle sometime into the not too distant future.. this would be like an end phase emphasis using saturn as the main gravitas to all the transits here.. perhaps others here have some thoughts on all this??

it might seem like i am going over this quickly, and in a way i am... i now begin the same exercise using the sidereal zodiac with the sidereal chart immediately below.. krisnamurti ayanamsa..



we still have the mars-saturn in cancer in spite of the zodiac switch, but now the i.c. has moved into gemini.. whole sign houses also puts the 4th house in gemini, so the position of mercury in the wh sign 8th takes this chart in a different direction.. still because of the degrees of the mars-saturn conjunction, i would view this as still a 4th house conjunction, although it is 5th house whole signs.. the benefics - venus and jupiter are in detriment in virgo in this chart and in a way this whole chart doesn't have some of the redeeming traits that the tropical chart had.. it puts more emphasis on the mercury-jupiter duo as i see it with the midpoint of merc/ju being 2 degrees off the position of the sun in the 7th.. this chart draws my attention to the mercury-pluto square in this chart which didn't seem to show up in the tropical chart... mercury rules the 4th and 7th houses here.. it implies a degree of diplomacy that would keep control of the information flow with some ulterior motives at work as well.. i am reminded of colin powells presence at the UN over the possible weapons of mass destruction which was used as the excuse to go to war in iraq... both the usa and uk under bush/.blair were very keen and did get their unnecessary war in iraq as a consequence but it wasn't agreed upon by the UN..

immediately below is the sidereal solar return for 2024 to this chart above..



this chart in some obvious ways is more dramatic then the same in tropical... it brings the mars-pluto opposition along the ascendant axis into greater focus. with pluto siting right on the descendant, implying a very challenging set up for the UN into the next year.. at the same time the ruler of the descendant saturn is in the 8th house, while the ascendant ruler moon is close to the ascendant.. the 2 rulers of the ascendant and descendant are in a 1-8 or 1-6 house relationship which is typically difficult as well.. they are both strong by sign position.. mercury is close to it's natal position and in a wide square to the moon rising in cancer.. mercury rules the 12th and 3rd here which could be read a few different ways.. the moon appears to be fairly close to the natal position of pluto - moon at 17 cancer 41 and natal 1945 pluto at 18 cancer 43.... perhaps the idea of making changes to the UN here will be met with very strong resistance which wouldn't surprise me.. when you think of the idea of international organizations having outlived their usefulness and needing to be modified by present circumstances, those who had a lot of power in the set up in 1945, stand the most to lose in any changes being made..

with regard the 2024 profections - libra profection year which is 8th whole sign houses from the pisces rising of the sidereal chart.. this puts greater emphasis on venus found in the 5th house in scorpio in the 24 solar return chart.. not sure what to make of that..

transits to the 1945 UN chart are the mars-pluto opposition in close proximity to the natal saturn position - saturn ruling the 10th and being challenged here by this ongoing opposition seen in the solar return and transits at present... this opposition sticks around due the retrograde motion of mars which is coming up soon... at a time when greater consensus from all the countries that are a part of the UN are needed, it appears to be caught up in a power struggle over how to move forward which is most unfortunate... also it seems the willingness to blame various different players, including the secretary general of the UN here is most unfortunate.. there you have it!

israel is receiving a lot of backlash from various countries, including the usa for this move to ban unrwa... in some circles there is discussion of kicking israel out of the un!

what i find interesting are the parallels between the chart for the UN and this chart for UNRWA... both charts have a close mars-saturn conjunction.. both also have a fairly close venus-jupiter conjunction... also there is a wide moon-uranus conjunction in both charts too... perhaps how this chart differs is the close application of moon in cancer to neptune in libra which is not seen in the UN chart..
