end of gas transit thru ukraine

interestingly enough, this development has been approved by europe!

this chart is for 23 hours, 59'59" dec 31st, kiev, ukraine - where this decision was made to stop the transit of gas thru ukraine into europe.. i have put it in sidereal zodiac..

virgo rising with mercury in the 3rd whole house sign seems to put an emphasis on the transit of things and this topic directly.. mercury is in a wide square to saturn, ruler of the 5/.6 houses and in the 6th house.. it is the malefic of the opposite sect, being a nocturnal chart... the sun is right on the ic point and happens to be on the direct midpoint of mercury-pluto which also seems very fitting.. jupiter is in the 9th house and also directly involved in a wide opposition to mercury, suggestive of the clash of ideas and values here between 3rd house mercury and 9th house jupiter.. jupiter is retro.. in fact, mercury and jupiter also rule the 1/7 houses showing an open ideological(?) opposition at work here.. the mercury-jupiter midpoint is close to saturn in the 6th - slightly less then 2 degrees out.. the idea of gas providing for the needs of an economy and people seems captured by saturn in the 6th and by robert ficos concern for the consequences of this cutting off of gas will have to slovakia..

the opposition of mars to pluto is fairly pronounced and implies a conflict and power struggle as well... mars rules the 8th house of this chart and is the most elevated planet in this chart.. it also happens to rule mercury which i think is fitting as well... ukraine appears to want to damage russia via these actions, but in fact is hurting slovakia and others more directly as i understand it...

the role of the nodes in astrological interpretation is an area of ongoing study for me... in this chart their is a very close relationship by degree of the nodal axis with the mars-pluto opposition... although the aspects are considered favourable - trine/sextile, the bringing of them together is not considered favourable in my understanding of indian astrology practice...

here is an article discussing this development

relevant quote from another article on this -
"Ukraine’s transit network is connected to the pipeline systems of Moldova, Romania, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia, and then on to Austria and Italy. Slovakia will be hit hardest by the halt in gas flows, as it relies on Russian supplies through Ukraine to cover around 60% of demand. Moldova, a former Soviet state and EU aspirant, could also be seriously affected by the end of the transit agreement, as it generates much of its electricity at a power station fueled by Russian gas."

Hi James - it seems the actual transmission of gas ended today at 8AM Moscow time (5AM GMT).

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/ ... s-gas-flow

"Russia’s Gazprom said in a statement that it had stopped sending gas via Ukraine as of 8am Moscow time (5am GMT) on Wednesday. Ukraine’s energy minister, German Galushchenko, called the move “historic”, while the president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, described it in a post on social media as “one of Moscow’s biggest defeats”."

thanks ed!!

i know that technically the contract was to end at midnight, but perhaps this is another consideration... hard to know the best way to define the end of it, but the decision seems to have been made in kiev, with support from the the eu.... i was thinking how it might be interesting to look at the chart for the eu, which i believe also took place at midnight....

looking into charts for the european union, i am going to quote nic campion from his book of world horoscopes 2004 edition on page 425..

"In such a period of gradual evolution it is difficult to know which ( chart) is the most important historic moment." it seems from 1958, the european union has been on an ongoing expansionary path right into today.. the treaty of rome is the first chart cited under the books section on the european union which is from 1957.. i have used the treaty of rome chart before for the european union, but that might not be the best one to use..
