Local Space Astrology - A Few Questions 1 by Dima Gur Hi everyone, Been delving deeper into Local Space Astrology lately, which is a sub-technique of AstroCartography, one can say. A few questions arose while studying the technique. Here's the Local Space widget view by Astrodienst ("AstroClick Local Space"): In it we see that the local space lines have a multi directional trajectory (as they should be, spanning around the globe). But, unlike other books or programs which show the LS lines, we can see on the one side the proper planet line (like the Moon line from London to Scandinavia) and on the other side the "opposition side of the line" (like the Moon line which goes to the north of Portugal). This is technically understandable, as the proper direction in that chart for the moon would be between the ASC and the IC (north-east direction) and the other end of the line is, well, the opposition side. But, as the LS lines go around the globe, there shouldn't be a difference in how we interpret the Moon line, regardless if we're approaching the part of the line which goes to Scandinavia or the one which goes towards Portugal. -- 1.) Is this how you treat LS line directions too? Or do you interpret each side differently Another question is the box which says "Keep azimuth of birth chart". As far as I understand, if I mark it, the only difference would be the following. That given a relocation of the LS lines, the ratio between the angles would stay the same, just like in the birth location. While if I don't tick it, the ratio between the angles would shift to the one in that locality. Example: say in quadrant houses, houses 1-3 are small and houses 4-6 cover a large area. It would stay the same, no matter where, if I tick the box. Another thing I've noticed is that if we don't mark that box, and we relocate ourselves to the opposite hemisphere (north vs south), then the MC-IC axis flips. This makes sense as the Sun is closer to the equator (middle of the earth), and in the north hemisphere the MC would face south (Sun's direction). On the south hemisphere though, the opposite would be the case, and the MC would face north. -- 2.) Do I understand it correctly? (the box and the hemisphere thingies), and also, do you usually tick that box? This decision seems even more important when one relocates to a different hemisphere on earth! Gemini Brett, in one of his videos, claimed he mostly ticks the box. The third question is about the Vertex and Anti-Vertex. This two points are where the Ecliptic and the Prime Vertical meet. I think I saw in a book by Charles Jayne, that with Local Space lines, he considers the Vertex as the west point and the Anti-Vertex as the east point (instead of the ASC and DC). I see now that this is also present in an extract from Steve Cozzi's book (see the sub-title "vertex and anti-vertex"): https://www.astro.com/astrology/in_localspace_e.htm -- 3.) Do these points (Vx and aVx) become important because in local space we don't use the Ecliptic, rather we use the local horizon? https://www.gurastro.com Quote Tue Jun 10, 2025 9:21 pm
Re: Local Space Astrology - A Few Questions 2 by Ouranos Dima Gur, These are below some information I have found in the book of Steve Cozzi. "Keeping azimuth of birth chart" means that the planet's positions in your natal chart are projected onto a map of the earth, using their respective azimuths (the angular direction from the observer to a celestial object). This allows you to see how those planetary positions in your birth chart relate to different locations on Earth. Steve Cozzi says... p.147 "Even though the longitude degrees of your birth AS and MC are always used no matter where you live, the fact remains that the chart does change or rotate when we move. The changing angles of the chart are, of course, the whole basis of what Locality Astrology is all about."... "Keep in mind that the aspects between the planets do not change" It is like looking at your natal chart and your Solar Return. With a troublesome Venus line in your natal chart, moving to a Venus line to find love might not end up being the best choice. The Astro*Carto*Graphy maps are calculated from Right Ascension only. These are called the mundane positions or 'in mundo'. They work fine with planets conjunct or near the MC/IC axis. However, for planets around the AS/DS axis like the MO, VE, PL and to some extent MA you need to consider the latitude as they can show up a difference of 1 to 6 degrees on the ecliptic. Each degree is about 50 miles/80km. Robert Hand has identified 7 types of Latitude Influence of Parans and Jim Lewis calls them 'crossings' lines and he gives interpretations for these crossing lines. Regarding the Vertex/Anti-Vertex, he also calls them true West and true East. Edward Johndro has found an explanation to differentiate them from the VII/AS. Cozzi...p.143 citing Johndro "He described the ecliptic, the AS/DS axis, as basically "electromagnetic" in nature, and the right ascension MC/IC as electrodynamic. He further explained that when planets are aspecting the AS/DS they manifest as psychological inducements, i.e. various attractions and repulsions. In Johndro's theory the AS/DS reveals the "intensity of current", the voltage in its static state. In reference to the MC/IC, Johndro makes a very important distinction. Planets in aspect to these angles are basically electromagnetic in nature; they 'deliver the current', thus producing current events and/or the turn of events. In making these distinctions, Johndro said that there are really two AS/DS: one electrical, one magnetic. Magnetic current is the current AS/DS but the electrical current is none other than the Anti-Vertex employed in Local Space. Johndro maintained that anything connected with the ecliptic is usually an indicator of potential. However, anything relating to right ascension MC/IC of the equator and the Vertex/Anti-Vertex actually "causes" the events." ---- So the Vertex isn't a body, such as a planet, but is formed by where the ecliptic (or path of the Sun) intersected the prime vertical: an imaginary line dividing the sky into two halves, a “front” and “back”. And I have 3 stories to share with you Dima. 1) Alphee Lavoie, a horary practitioner says he uses a Local Space Chart to locate people or objects where he points the Anti-Vertex to due East. Locate the 2nd House ruler if you are looking for a lost possession, 6th House ruler for a pet or 12th House ruler if you lost your elephant. And see which direction it is in the Local Space Chart. Higher latitude will be up in the location, lower latitude near the ground. He always find his cat this way in his house. 2) Sophia Mason (The Art of Forecasting using Diurnal Charts) uses the Vertex in sports gaming and she has found it to give an edge to the team who has a planet in aspect to it. 3) With Primary Directions, one of my influence Danièle Jay, a French astrologer who studied with Giuseppe Bezza suggested to calculate the Parts "in mundo" as she says like Johndro, but in other words, that on the ecliptic is a psychological influence but calculated from the Equator causes the events. And I have found some of my planets and related midpoints in my natal chart better explained what I was living by placing them in their Right Ascencion position. Hope this will be helpful for you, Ouranos Blessings! Quote Wed Jun 11, 2025 4:45 am
Re: Local Space Astrology - A Few Questions 3 by Dima Gur Ouranos hi, Thanks for your reply, it was an interesting read. Actually just used Lavoie's method in a lost object horary recently. Though, according to the client, it didn't work. He did find his passport using other info-bits from the horary though. https://www.gurastro.com Quote Wed Jun 25, 2025 10:47 pm
