I don't know many details, only that Maurice passed away last night following a long illness. Those of us who knew him will remember him as a bright spark, a very friendly, engaging and passionate man who contributed strong arguments about traditional astrological theory. I have many fond memories and reasons to consider myself lucky to have known him, and I shall miss him.

This is such sad news. I corresponded with him several years ago about his Tara software program and techniques, and found him to be warm, gracious, and eager to discuss ideas. Thank you for letting us know about his passing, Deb.

I just came in to post this to see that Deborah had already done so.

Maurice died peacefully in hospital yesterday evening. His brother was with him.

His funeral will be held in Belfast in the very near future. Although I don't yet have details, I'm happy to forward them to anyone who requests as soon as I do.

The Lodge will also be holding an event in London to celebrate Maurice's life. This will be open to anyone who wishes to attend and I will post details here as soon as they're available.

Maurice was my friend as well as colleague, and although I had known for some time that he was seriously ill, the news has still come as a great shock. All of us who knew him are greatly saddened and will miss him.

I came to know of Maurice McCann through his extremely interesting and stimulating books such as his work Eclipses (with Derek Appleby), The Void of Course Moon, and The Sun and the Aspects. Although best known for his interest in horary and traditional astrology he also did important research in other areas. For example his pioneering work on the 1927 chart for the UK in Realta.

I had the good fortune to meet him once at the History of Astrology Conference in 2008.

A real loss not just for his family and friends but for the astrological community in general.

This was sad news and does call for a moment of rememberance. It is a powerful reminder that inspite of the many differentiations within the field of astrology, we are all very closely knit together. Maurice struck me as being warm, sensitive, knowledgeable and dedicated. Thank you, Maurice!

The Astrological Lodge of London is hosting an afternoon to celebrate the life and work of Maurice McCann.

It will take place on Saturday 2 April at The Old Red Cow (upstairs function room) in Smithfield at 71 Long Lane, EC1A 9EJ from 2:30 pm ? 5:00 pm.

(Those of you who are easily confused might want to know that the room is booked under my name ? simply ask the bar staff if you can?t work out what you?re doing ? I?ll be there early.)
